2023 Paper Bag Pinot Noir
A modest paper label to pay tribute to a childhood favourite, The Paper Bag Princess; a story that is as relevant today as it was when I first read it. A story that, while I didn’t realise it at the time, shaped my views on the world and my place in it. A story that continues to serve as a reminder that looks can be deceiving, that gender roles are bullshit, and to always know your worth.
Michael and I farmed the fruit for the Paper Bag Pinot Noir on a small vineyard in the Coal Valley. It’s a culmination of our earlier hand-picks, followed up by very minimal intervention in the winery - fermentation at ambient cellar temperatures, gently hand-plunged daily, and left to rest in neutral oak. As a result, the wine has retained a lot of its bright red fruit characteristics and vibrant acidity, all framed by soft tannins.
